Polarimetric Microwave Sensor for Angular Speed Measurement

This article presents a design methodology and prototyping of an angular speed sensor based on microwave polarimetry. The detection mechanism relies the transmission response dual-polarized circular aperture irradiating array regularly spaced copper traces printed PCB. generated is regular pulse train defined by location trace with reference to center aperture. While can be sampled at any rate for time length, detector was acquired within 1-s duration effectively 10 kHz demonstration purposes. analyzed in frequency domain using fast Fourier transform (FFT) rotor obtained from spectrum train. To demonstrate working principle system, PCB rotor, which occupies area 84.64 cm2, attached rotary stage set rotate certain speeds, including but not limited 62 r/min. In all settings, speeds were detected 1 s worst case error ±0.625
